Started back in January 2002 with its first web radio show on jazz-network radio - at that time a corporation of jazz-network.com Stuttgart, Germany and the Stuttgart Media University (HdM) - which became our steady hosting partner for three years. With new regulations coming up for webradio services webcasting from German territory - set up by the gvl.de - our hosting partner where no longer able to offer us a hosting service. In April 2005 it almost looked like we had to stop our radio project! But thanks to the lounge-radio.com crew, who offered us to host our show on a monthly basis, we are now able to keep on spreading the music we love!

The basic concept was to produce a 'bring the jazz back to the dancefloor' show with only sparsely moderation and a lot of music - club-like jazz sounds. The musical concept of the show is quite simple to describe: if you like it - play it, if you don't like it - don't play it. The result is a highly subjective view, which often ignores genre borders. The show tries not to present only an explicit genre, but defines itself as a forum of fusion of different popular jazz styles which hopefully found their ways back into the club scene within the last 15 years. Therefore the definition of ‚what is jazz' is a bit fuzzy and allows influences of different genres which so appear in a new context. An exact definition of ‚what is jazz' is actually not the intention - there are many influences like club- and easy listening sounds (...), call it nujazz, downtempo, breaks, nubossa, brasil, modern jazz who cares about names - listen to the music and like it or not ...

During the last three years, numerous well known international artists and DJs contributed their part to make department deluxe radio :: a success: artist like zbikbeat [aka Andi Zbik / Schmollmund Produktion / Stuttgart], Steven Yang [radio take 10 / China], CurlCurl [aka Phil Broekelmann / Wellington / NZ], S-Tone Inc. [aka Stefano Tirone / Schema / Milano], Heavy Üsker [aka Rob Smith / Radio Madrid]. danYdan [timelessinspiration.com / Strassbourg / FR], combo moderna [Tilburg / NL], Nathan McLay [townB.com / Sydney / AUS] and jazzmate [aka Nebojsa Atranovic / tudo beleza / leftofcentre / ... / Belgrad] have been featured as guest selectors.
