Heineken Music has established a name for themselves with their commitment to introducing cutting-edge music acts and unique club experiences to Singaporeans over the years. “We have come a long way since we held our first Heineken Music event in October 2000,” said Mr Desmond Tan, Marketing Manager for Heineken. “Hosting groundbreaking events is our forte. Singaporeans are constantly looking for fresh entertainment experiences and Heineken is committed to providing just that. We are very excited to bring Daara J to Singapore to give the country another chance to check out this fantastic live act in an up-close and personal setting.” Formed in 1997, Daara J is made up of N’Dango D, Aladji Man and Faada Freddy. They first performed in Singapore during the WOMAD festival in 2004 and Daara J quickly became the festival favourite with their high-energy performances, colourful African costumes and engaging stage presence. The Daara J name means ‘School of Life’ and this trio have certainly lived up to their name by educating listeners with their thoughtful lyrics; reggae, jazz and hip-hop beats and powerful live performances. Join Heineken Music for one of the live performances of the year with Daara J at Attica Too on Thursday 20 April. This event is open to the public from 9pm till late. Clubbers will be able to order their first Heineken at the door for $12 and gain entry to the event. Heineken Music members will receive free and priority entry before 11pm. About Daara J Born in Africa but raised in America, this cosmopolitan trio has successfully made a name for themselves with their positive lyrics that stray from the machismo and materialism of American mainstream hip-hop. Daara J’s knack for using their lyrics as an educational influence has been compared to the likes De La Soul, Public Enemy and MC Solaar. Their music and passion have had such a powerful effect on Senegalese that Daara J were asked to help promote anti-corruption political campaigns during Senegal’s presidential elections in 2000. Appreciation for Daara J’s music has also spread far and wide outside of Africa. They released the album, Boomerang in America in 2004, and it received critical acclaim for its unique sound. Daara J was also named “Best African Act” in the BBC Radio 3 World Music Awards. * Management reserves the right to limit entry due to capacity. |
