Colorblind
is a project of DJ Spider and Tokyo DJ Jun Matsuoka. They both are
responsible for those groovy nights at La Marquise - Lyon, France
- host of internationally acclaimed DJs like Ross Allen, Jazzanova,
Amon Tobin, Mr Scruff, Rainer Trüby, Freddy Fresh or Zero dB.
Spider
and Jun are largely influenced by Afro-American music in its widest
sense, and their open-minded DJ sets - a cross-over of latin jazz,
two-step, soul or deep house - reflect the way they compose.
On this first album, they are joined by musicians with jazz and latin
background. Sir Jean (Meï Teï Sho) and Mr Day (Rotax, Glasgow
Underground) also joined on vocals. Colorblind’s compositions
are destined to be played live, allowing spaces for musicians to improvise.
Unlike most of today's so-called live acts, Colorblind really achieves
to deliver a flesh-and-bone performance.
"Nu-swing !" is an alternate version of "Swing it up
!" which was Colorblind's first outprint and met with a warm
response from DJs worldwide. Its powerful beats mixed with true jazziness
perfume makes it a sure floor-filler. The latin orientated "Novo
dia" is a deeper shaking bossa combining future funk synths with
sweet Brazilian vocals. The 2-steppin’ “Wonderbass”,
funny mambo of “Whachacha”, loungin’ “B.Erotica”
or the soulful “Superzoom” are good examples of the wide
spectrum of moods and grooves of their repertoire.
